Segura is headed to the Marlins, division rivals |
The Marlins are definitely looking to flip their season records around because they haven't had a winning record since 2009. Jean Segura could definitely help with that, but the only problem, is that the Marlins and the Phillies are division rivals. Segura said he wanted to complete his career as a Phillie (from Phillie's Nation), but obviously, this won't happen.
The loss of Segura isn't ruinous to a Phillies team looking to return to the World Series, but it does bite. Segura had an excellent arm and was used effectively mostly on second base.
Segura's loss is overshadowed with the arrival of Dodgers' shortstop Trea Turner a couple weeks ago. He signed an enormous 11 year, 300 million dollar contract. Turner is exactly what the Phillies need to push them to the postseason again this year, and beyond. He slugged 21 homers last year coupled with 100 RBI. He also had 194 hits and a .298 batting average.

The Phillies are virtually hoarding big name players, Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, and now Trea Turner. Although Segura will be missed, Turner, Harper, and Schwarber have what it takes to lead Philadelphia to a championship.
